Dentures

Dentures are used to replace missing teeth. They help you regain the capacity to speak, smile, laugh, chew and eat without effort or pain.

What are dentures?

Dentures are removable, artificial prosthetics that look like natural teeth—used to replace missing teeth, they are moulded to fit the unique structure of your mouth. Dentures are attached to the gum line or the roof of the mouth. Unlike metal partial dentures used in the past, modern dentures – full or partial, are produced from modern materials that make the prosthetic fit easily and feel comfortable..

Who needs dentures?

Dentures are needed by anyone who:

  • is missing teeth as a result of an accident;
  • has severely damaged teeth by tooth decay.

Types of dentures

Based on the number of teeth they replace, dentures can be:

  • Full dentures: these are used for replacing an entire row of teeth. Full upper dentures are made from a base attached to the roof of the mouth, whilst full lower dentures are configured in a U-shaped design that provides space to enable the tongue to move without restrictions.
  • Partial dentures (sometimes known also as partial dental plate) can fill the gaps caused by missing teeth. These dentures are supported by the teeth surrounding the missing teeth area. In some situations, installing dental crowns in the gums is necessary as a backup measure in case the remaining teeth are not healthy or strong enough to support the partial denture.

Denture fitting is done based on the particularities of the mouth’s structure to make sure this prosthetic can be worn and removed easily for regular cleaning. Custom-made dentures provide comfort and a beautiful smile.

The benefits of dentures

Dentures provide several important advantages:

  • a natural look and feel, very close to the person’s own teeth;
  • are available in a wide range of colours to match the inside of the mouth;
  • enable the wearer to speak, smile, laugh, chew and eat without difficulty;
  • stop teeth pain and damage;
  • support the structure of the mouth close to lips and cheeks;
  • enable proper oral hygiene due to the easy cleaning process;
  • preserve the beautiful smile by replacing the missing teeth.
